Contact S11 barefoot sneakers are designed as a natural alternative to classic, widely worn sneakers, which typically feature a raised heel, a narrow toe box, and a thicker sole. In contrast, barefoot footwear follows the natural shape of the foot and allows for freer movement.
The Proalp Contact S11 model is available in sizes from 36 to 48.5, in half sizes, and three different widths, allowing for a significantly more precise fit than with conventional sneakers. This is especially important when choosing based on foot length and width.
The difference between barefoot and classic sneakers
Classic, widely worn sneakers:
- raise the heel,
- restrict toe movement,
- have a narrow front (the line goes inward at the big toe),
- reduce foot muscle activity.
Contact S11 barefoot sneakers, however, feature:
- a flat sole without a raised heel,
- a wide toe box,
- a completely flexible design,
- natural weight distribution when walking.
This design allows the foot to work more actively, similar to walking barefoot, which can contribute to a more natural body posture and better muscle activation.
Natural foot movement and gait stabilization
The goal in developing Contact S11 barefoot shoes was to allow the foot to freely spread and adapt to the ground with each step, without the restrictions typical of classic footwear.
This way of walking encourages the activation of foot muscles and also affects leg muscles and body posture. Barefoot shoes thus enable a more natural way of movement compared to conventional sneakers.
It is natural for our bodies to land on the ground with our entire feet when walking, even if the ground is often uneven and hard. This naturally stabilizes and strengthens all structures in the body.
Comfort that classic sneakers often don’t provide
The very first feeling when you put them on makes a difference. Contact S11 barefoot sneakers are extremely light, breathable, and flexible. The spacious toe box allows you to naturally spread your toes, reducing the feeling of confinement common with classic sneakers.
The flat sole without a raised heel allows for more stable and natural ground contact, which is one of the key differences between barefoot and classic footwear.
Natural materials and good climate in the shoes
For the upper part of Proalp barefoot shoes, we use high-quality Italian leather, and the lining is made of 5 mm natural sheep’s wool. This acts as a natural insulator that regulates temperature — warming in winter and breathing without overheating in summer.
Compared to synthetic materials often found in classic sneakers, sheep’s wool reduces sweating and remains comfortable during prolonged use.
Sole and walking protection
The vulcanized rubber sole is anti-slip, durable, and wear-resistant. The higher edge around the sole provides additional protection for the foot when walking on wet terrain.
Two sole versions are available:
The thinner 2.5 mm sole allows for maximum ground contact that the shoe can provide.
With a coarse profile, it provides excellent grip, maintains flexibility, and offers more protection for sensitive feet.
Why choose barefoot sneakers instead of classic ones?
Contact S11 barefoot shoes offer:
- more toe room,
- more natural foot movement,
- more active muscle use,
- a better feel for the ground.
After an adjustment period, many users report more natural walking and greater comfort compared to classic sneakers.
