At Proalp, we believe that high-quality footwear is made from carefully selected natural materials that respect both the environment and people. All materials used in our shoes come from within 350 kilometres of our workshop in Tržič, so we can truly say this is local, sustainable production.

For Proalp footwear, we select only materials produced within the European Union, where environmental and safety standards are among the strictest in the world. The EU enforces clear regulations such as REACH, which controls the use of chemicals in leather processing (for example chromium VI, formaldehyde, and dyes). In addition, European directives on emissions and waste regulate water treatment processes, the reduction of air emissions, and waste management.

Protecting health and working conditions

European legislation protects the health and safety of consumers. As a result, many hazardous substances such as heavy metals and carcinogenic dyes are either banned or strictly limited in the EU, while they may still be used in countries outside the EU. Working conditions are also strictly regulated, meaning that the materials for our shoes are produced in safe working environments.

We source materials for Proalp shoes from manufacturers in Slovenia and northern Italy. Italy is known for its sustainable and high-quality leather production, with a strong focus on environmentally friendly practices and craftsmanship. One of the most important leather production hubs is Arzignano, where the leather used in Proalp shoes is produced.
Thanks to local and traceable production, at Proalp we know exactly where our materials come from and how they have been processed.
