We find daily that in our society there is too little awareness about shoe spaciousness, and to a large extent we wear shoes that are too small. Women especially are not spared from beauty ideals that lead us to choose shoes that are too small.
We have a different opinion: spacious, sufficiently large shoes radiate health and well-being—is it possible that these two things wouldn’t be beautiful?
What are the characteristics of sufficiently large shoes?
Toe box: when standing upright in shoes, there is 12 mm of empty space in front of the toes (when we take a step, the foot moves forward in the shoe).
The shape of the front part follows the shape of the feet: at the big toe, the shoe goes as straight as possible, while the curve on the outer part is wide enough so we can wiggle our toes freely and the shoes don’t squeeze the toes together.
Sole: is at least as wide as our foot, so we step stably. The grip around the ankles is soft and secure, so we walk relaxed and don’t catch the shoes behind us.
The human foot is the result of a long evolutionary period
Nature designed the foot to move the body flexibly across uneven ground.
