Proalp is a Slovenian footwear manufacturer based in Tržič, in Slovenia, EU, a town with a shoemaking tradition that spans centuries. We are proud to continue the shoemaking heritage of our local community.
In our workshop, we develop, design and manufacture footwear that combines traditional shoemaking expertise, modern knowledge of foot health and a sustainable approach to production. We create footwear that supports the natural function of the feet while providing protection whenever it is needed.

Proalp shoes have supported healthy feet for more than 30 years
One of Proalp’s longest-established footwear collections consists of casual everyday shoes. Like our barefoot shoes, they feature a spacious forefoot, a foot-shaped design, excellent breathability and long-lasting durability. What distinguishes them from barefoot shoes is their thicker sole. They are particularly popular among people looking for comfortable, healthy footwear that offers more underfoot protection than barefoot footwear while still respecting the natural shape and function of the foot.
Proalp barefoot shoes
Proalp barefoot footwear is designed to allow the feet to move as naturally as possible. It features a wide toe box, a flat sole without a raised heel, exceptional flexibility and improved ground feel.
We specialise in three key areas of barefoot footwear development.
1. Barefoot hiking
Our barefoot hiking shoes support natural foot movement, reliable grip and a secure fit across a wide variety of terrains.
2. Different widths and half sizes
No two feet are exactly alike. That is why we manufacture our models in two, three or four different widths, as well as in half sizes. This approach allows for a much more precise fit than most mass-produced footwear and contributes significantly to long-term comfort and health.
3. Custom colour options
Many models can also be ordered in customised colour combinations. This allows every customer to choose footwear that reflects their personal style without compromising on comfort, functionality and foot health.
Hiking and mountaineering shoes
Surrounded by the beautiful mountains of Slovenia, the Proalp team consists of passionate hikers who spend a great deal of time outdoors. This gives us a deep understanding of what makes quality hiking and mountain footwear.
Proalp non-barefoot hiking boots are designed with torsional stability for both moderate and demanding terrain. At the same time, our barefoot hiking shoes have become a popular choice for lighter hikes and everyday outdoor activities.
Sustainability is not a trend – it is the way we work
Sustainability has been part of the Proalp story from the very beginning.
Over recent decades, the global footwear industry has changed dramatically. Traditional workshops like ours were once commonplace, but large international corporations gradually took over much of the market, moving production in less sustainable directions. While much of today’s footwear industry relies on mass production and long supply chains, we remain committed to local manufacturing, local premium materials and products with a long service life.
All materials used in Proalp footwear are sourced from within 350 kilometres of our workshop. This reduces transport distances, supports regional manufacturers and allows us to maintain close control over material quality.
For us, sustainability is not only about sourcing materials locally. It is also about creating footwear that lasts. We use premium materials and devote great attention to the quality of our craftsmanship. Proalp footwear is designed to be worn for many years. We further extend its lifespan through sole replacement, repairs and fit adjustments.
