Observe your feet, especially your toes, when you walk barefoot. When you take a step and press the front part of your foot against the ground, your toes spread out and move forward, don’t they?
When we wear shoes that don’t have enough room for the toes (we mean length and width), the shoes push the toes together while walking, and the bones of the forefoot deform.
A simplified explanation would be as follows:
If the inner line of the shoe at the big toe does not go straight, the big toe is pushed inward towards the other toes, and usually, the shoes are also too short. Under the pressure of walking, the hallux bone reacts by moving away from the foot and enlarging. Let’s simulate this reaction by pressing (you can sit) on the top of your barefoot big toe and pushing it inward and back towards the heel. Do you see where the hallux bone moves? Well, that’s it.
Constrictions also occur in other foot bones, muscles, and nerves. The feet bear the weight of our entire body at once, with an infinite number of repetitions during walking. Add to this the increased pressure due to elevated heels.
