Kanin Mid mountaineering boots are suitable for both recreational and professional hiking. They are torsionally stable, yet light and flexible enough for comfortable wear on long and demanding routes. They sit lower at the ankle than the Kanin High model, while sharing all other key characteristics.

Protection and safety

The ankle area is reinforced to help prevent sprains, even on more technical terrain. The forefoot is also heavily reinforced, helping to protect the foot from impact with sharp rocks. Kanin boots are extensively covered with 1mmrubber layer, providing additional protection and helping to reduce water and moisture penetration.

Designed for a secure fit

Despite the reinforcements, the boots are designed for a secure, close fit, ensuring excellent foot hold, which is essential for mountaineering. For added stability, we have included a lace locking loop, which prevents the laces from loosening after tightening the lower section, allowing the upper section to be adjusted separately.

High-quality leather and waterproof membrane

Kanin boots are made from high-quality, predominantly natural materials. The upper leather is water-repellent, while the lining consists of breathable mesh. They also feature a waterproof membrane, making them suitable for snow and wet conditions. At the same time, careful attention has been given to maintaining breathability and keeping your feet as dry as possible during perspiration.

High-quality Vibram outsole

The durable Vibram outsole combines two materials with different hardness levels. This ensures improved ground grip and helps reduce excessive outsole wear. The compound adapts to the terrain by flexing away from the surface where pressure is greatest. The sole also helps absorb strong impact forces during walking. The non-slip rubber is suitable for rocky, wet, and snowy conditions.

In the development of all Proalp’s footwear, we place great emphasis on outsole performance, working closely with leading Italian development partners with whom we have collaborated for many years.

Torsionally stable outsole

A torsionally stable outsole provides controlled stiffness against twisting, meaning the shoe does not easily bend or rotate in the middle when walking on uneven ground. This improves stability, especially on rocky or sloped terrain, as it helps keep the foot aligned and supported throughout each step.

At the same time, it is engineered to balance stability with natural flexibility in the forefoot, allowing a more comfortable and efficient walking motion without unnecessary foot fatigue.

  • better stability on uneven terrain
  • reduced risk of the shoe twisting underfoot
  • improved balance and foot control
  • more secure feeling when walking on rocks or slopes

The rubber rand around the shoe adds strength, helps reduce water penetration, and protects your feet from sharp rocks.

LOM last shape respects foot anatomy

In developing the new LOM last, we created additional space for the big toe and little toe, making it suitable even for wider feet, while narrowing the heel area for a more secure fit.

Materials

  • Upper: leather, elastic rubberised textile, vulcanised rubber

Shoe care helps maintain a good appearance, durability, and resistance to different weather conditions. Below are some practical tips.

Shoes made from smooth leather:

Occasionally wipe them with a damp cloth, which may include a drop of mild dishwashing liquid.
Clean shoes can be treated with a thin layer of colourless cream or leather balm, which should then be gently rubbed into the smooth leather using a dry cloth. When applying a new product, always test it on a less visible area before treating the entire surface.

Shoes made from suede, nubuck and brushed leather:

If dry and muddy, brush them with a suitable suede brush.
Occasionally wipe them with a damp cloth, which may include a drop of mild dishwashing liquid.
Once clean, apply a colourless waterproofing spray suitable for footwear.

For all Proalp shoes please also note:

Allow wet shoes to dry naturally in a shaded, well-ventilated area or indoors, away from direct heat sources.
Never soak them in water or wash them in a washing machine.
If desired, during the off-season you can stuff them with crumpled absorbent paper (e.g. newspaper) to help maintain their shape.

How often should be shoes cleaned and maintained?

Everyone has their own preferences, but we recommend cleaning and caring for your shoes a few times per season.

Ordered items that are in stock are dispatched within two working days of placing the order. For items that are not in stock, the average lead time is extended by approximately three working days. If the delivery time is further extended, we will notify you accordingly.

We source materials for Proalp shoes from manufacturers in Slovenia and northern Italy. Italy is renowned for sustainable, high-quality leather production, with an emphasis on green practices and artisanal craftsmanship. Arzignano is one of the most important centers, where the leather used for our Proalp shoes is produced.

Thanks to Proalp’s local and traceable production, we know exactly where our materials come from and how they were processed.
