Why you won’t find original Proalp barefoot shoes on marketplaces

“I bought a pair of barefoot shoes from you, but now I can see them being sold on Temu at a very low price. Are they your products? They are using your photos.”

This is a question we recently received from one of our customer.

We would like to make it clear that Proalp barefoot shoes are sold exclusively under the Proalp brand and its official logos. We design and manufacture our footwear ourselves and sell it only through our own sales channels.

The materials, craftsmanship and production methods we use simply would not be compatible with the pricing policies typically found on large discount marketplaces.

Beware of imitations and misleading listings

Many online marketplaces offer barefoot shoes made from inexpensive materials. If you ever come across listings using Proalp photos on such platforms, these products are not genuine Proalp footwear.

Unfortunately, counterfeit listings and misleading advertising are common online, and authentic manufacturers often have very limited control over how their images are misused by third parties.

To ensure that you are purchasing genuine Proalp footwear, we recommend buying directly from our official channels.

Why we believe in supporting local products

At Proalp, we strongly believe that consumers should consider choosing locally made products whenever possible.

Higher quality standards

Products manufactured in Slovenia and throughout the European Union must comply with strict standards relating to quality, product safety and environmental protection. These regulations help ensure that customers receive products of consistently high quality.

Reduced environmental impact

Locally made products travel shorter distances before reaching customers. This means lower transport emissions and a smaller carbon footprint, making them a more environmentally responsible choice.

Direct access to the manufacturer

When you purchase directly from a local manufacturer, there are fewer intermediaries involved. Customers have direct access to the people who design and produce the product, while manufacturers possess in-depth knowledge of every detail of their work.

Supporting local communities

Buying locally helps support jobs, innovation and economic development within your region. It keeps investment within local communities and contributes to the long-term sustainability of local businesses and skilled craftsmanship.

Why local products often cost more

One of the reasons some customers choose imported products is their lower price.

However, lower prices are often made possible by production systems that operate under very different standards than those required in Europe.

Manufacturers in Slovenia and across the EU are expected to meet higher standards regarding:

  • Employee wages
  • Working conditions
  • Social protections
  • Environmental responsibility
  • Product safety

These standards increase production costs, but they also contribute to fairer working practices and more sustainable manufacturing.

In addition, European manufacturers frequently use higher-quality materials and devote significant attention to craftsmanship and detail. The result is a product designed to provide long-term value rather than short-term savings.

Looking beyond price

How often do we ask ourselves where the products we buy actually come from? Today, convenience and low prices play a major role in consumer decisions. Fast-fashion brands and large online marketplaces make it easier than ever to purchase inexpensive, mass-produced products with just a few clicks.

As consumers, we often make purchasing decisions quickly, without investigating where a product was made, how it was produced, what materials were used, or what impact its production may have had on people and the environment.

A low price can be appealing, but it does not tell the full story.

A positive trend towards conscious purchasing

Despite these challenges, we remain optimistic.

We are seeing growing interest in ethical consumerism, sustainable shopping, and locally made products. More and more people are choosing quality over quantity and taking a greater interest in the origin, durability and environmental impact of the products they buy.

We believe this growing awareness is a positive step forward — for consumers, for local businesses, and for a more sustainable future.
