For centuries, narrow, high-heeled shoes have been associated with elegance, status, and fashion. Even today, slim shoes with raised heels are often considered the ideal of beauty. While they may look attractive, wearing tight footwear every day can gradually affect the health of your feet and, consequently, your entire body.

That’s why it is worth choosing footwear that supports your feet rather than restricting them. Healthy shoes allow your feet to move naturally, maintain their strength, and preserve their vitality. Strong, flexible feet not only improve comfort in everyday life but also make it easier to wear more formal or less comfortable footwear when the occasion requires it.

Why foot health matters

Our feet are the foundation of our body. They support our entire body weight, maintain balance and posture, absorb impact, and propel us forward with every step.

During walking, the foot is constantly changing shape. Weight is transferred from the heel to the base of the little toe and finally to the big toe, which provides the final push-off. Every joint, tendon, ligament, and muscle has an important role in this natural movement.

When shoes restrict these movements, the foot gradually loses strength and function.

Footwear should work with your feet

At Proalp, every shoe is developed around one simple principle: footwear should work with your feet, not against them.

Whether we design everyday shoes, hiking boots, or barefoot footwear, our goal is always the same—to interfere as little as possible with the foot’s natural movement.

That is why Proalp footwear combines:

  • a naturally shaped toe box that allows the toes to spread freely
  • flexible soles that support the foot’s natural rolling movement
  • soft support around the ankle without unnecessary pressure
  • a low heel (up to 1 cm higher than the forefoot) to help maintain natural posture
  • premium natural materials that create a comfortable in-shoe climate

Why toe space matters

One of the most important features of healthy footwear is a spacious toe box.

The toes are not simply passengers inside the shoe. They actively stabilise the body, maintain the arches of the foot, and generate power during push-off. The big toe, in particular, plays a crucial role in efficient walking.

When footwear squeezes the toes together, these natural functions are reduced. Over time, this may contribute to discomfort and reduced foot function.

Proalp shoes are designed to follow the natural shape of the foot. The inner toe line remains straight, giving the big toe the room it needs, while the wider outer toe area allows all the toes to move naturally without restriction.

Flexible shoes support natural movement

A healthy foot bends naturally at the ball of the foot with every step.

Rigid footwear restricts this movement. Excessively thick or heavily cushioned soles may also interfere with the foot’s natural biomechanics.

Proalp shoes use flexible sole constructions that allow the foot to move naturally while still providing protection and comfort on a variety of surfaces.

Premium materials for a healthy in-shoe climate

Even the best shoe design can only perform well if it is made from high-quality materials.

At Proalp, we carefully select premium materials from Slovenia and Italy that meet strict European quality standards. We combine natural leather with materials such as wool, linen, hemp, and cork to create footwear that is breathable, durable, and comfortable throughout the year.

Good materials help regulate temperature, reduce excess moisture, and create a healthy environment inside the shoe.

Every pair of Proalp shoes is developed and manufactured in Tržič, Slovenia, a town with a centuries-old shoemaking tradition.

We combine traditional craftsmanship with modern knowledge of foot biomechanics to create footwear that is durable, repairable, and designed for years of comfortable use.

Give your feet the freedom they need

Healthy feet need movement.

Whenever possible, spend some time walking barefoot on safe natural surfaces. This helps strengthen the muscles of the feet, improves balance, and supports natural movement.

And when going barefoot isn’t practical, choose footwear that allows your feet to behave as naturally as possible.

That’s the philosophy behind every pair of Proalp shoes.
