Every day, we find that awareness of proper shoe fit is still far too low, and many people regularly wear shoes that are simply too small. Women in particular are often influenced by beauty standards that encourage the choice of footwear that looks attractive but does not provide enough room for the feet.
At Proalp, we see things differently. Spacious, properly fitting shoes reflect health, comfort, and natural movement. And can health and wellbeing ever be anything but beautiful?
What are the characteristics of properly fitting shoes?
1. Toe space
When standing upright in your shoes, there should be 12 mm of free space in front of your toes. This extra room is essential because the foot naturally moves forward inside the shoe with each step.
2. Foot-shaped design
The front of the shoe should follow the natural shape of the foot. Along the big-toe side, the shoe should widen naturally, while the outer curve should be wide enough to allow the toes to spread and move freely. Shoes should never squeeze the toes together.
3. Stable, properly sized sole
The sole should be at least as wide as your foot to provide stability and support while walking. Around the heel and ankle, the fit should feel secure yet comfortable, allowing you to walk naturally without having to grip or chase your shoes with every step.
Choosing properly fitting, foot-shaped shoes gives your feet the space they need to move naturally, helping to support comfort, stability, and long-term foot health.
