Contact S11 barefoot sneakers are designed as a natural alternative to conventional trainers, which typically feature a raised heel, a narrow toe box and a thick sole. In contrast, barefoot footwear follows the natural shape of the foot and allows for more natural movement.
The Proalp Contact S11 model is available in sizes 36 to 48.5, including half sizes, and in three different widths. This allows for a significantly more precise fit than conventional trainers, which is particularly important when choosing footwear based on both foot length and width.
The difference between barefoot and conventional trainers
Conventional trainers typically:
- raise the heel,
- restrict natural toe movement,
- have a narrow toe box that pushes the big toe inwards,
- reduce foot muscle activity.
Contact S11 barefoot sneakers, by contrast, feature:
- a flat, zero-drop sole,
- a wide toe box,
- a fully flexible construction,
- natural weight distribution while walking.
This design allows the foot to function more actively, similar to walking barefoot, which may contribute to more natural posture and improved muscle activation.
Natural foot movement and gait stability
The goal behind the development of Contact S11 barefoot shoes was to allow the foot to spread naturally and adapt to the ground with every step, without the restrictions commonly found in conventional footwear.
This way of walking encourages the activation of the foot muscles and also influences the muscles of the legs and the body’s overall posture. Barefoot shoes therefore support a more natural walking pattern compared with conventional trainers.
Humans are naturally designed to walk with the entire foot making contact with the ground, even on uneven surfaces. This helps stabilise the body and strengthens the structures involved in movement.
Comfort that conventional trainers cannot provide
The difference is noticeable from the moment you put them on. Contact S11 barefoot sneakers are exceptionally lightweight, breathable and flexible. The spacious toe box allows the toes to spread naturally, reducing the feeling of confinement that is common in conventional trainers.
The flat sole, without a raised heel, enables more stable and natural contact with the ground, which is one of the key differences between barefoot footwear and conventional trainers.
Natural materials and a comfortable in-shoe climate
The upper of Proalp barefoot shoes is made from high-quality Italian leather, while the lining consists of 5 mm natural sheepskin wool.
Natural wool acts as an effective temperature regulator, helping to keep feet warm during colder months while remaining breathable and comfortable in warmer conditions.
Compared with the synthetic materials commonly used in conventional trainers, natural wool helps reduce sweating and maintains comfort throughout the day.
Sole design and ground protection
The vulcanised rubber sole is slip-resistant, durable and highly resistant to wear.
The raised edge around the sole provides additional protection when walking on wet or challenging terrain.
Two sole options are available:
-
2.5 mm sole
The thinner 2.5 mm sole provides the maximum ground feel that the shoe can offer, allowing for a closer connection with the surface beneath your feet.
-
Sole with a deep tread
The sole with a deeper tread pattern offers excellent grip while maintaining flexibility. It also provides additional protection for people who have sensitive feet.
Why choose barefoot sneakers over conventional trainers?
Contact S11 barefoot shoes offer:
- more room for the toes,
- more natural foot movement,
- greater muscle activation,
- improved ground feel.
After a short adaptation period, many wearers report a more natural walking experience and greater comfort compared with conventional trainers.
