A key feature of Proalp Contact barefoot shoes is their ultra-thin 2.5 mm sole made from vulcanised rubber, designed to provide maximum ground feel and natural foot movement. The sole is exceptionally flexible and highly durable. When wearing Contact shoes, you are protected from the discomfort of small sharp stones, while your feet can still adapt to the surface beneath you with every step, much like walking barefoot.
A 15 mm protective rubber rand surrounds the foot, making these shoes suitable for use on wet surfaces by preventing direct contact between the upper and the ground. Made from very soft vulcanised rubber without a rigid edge, it can adapt to the width of your feet.
All Proalp Contact thin soles can be fitted with an additional 5 mm outsole featuring a deep tread.
When wearing Contact barefoot shoes with the deep tread, the sensation of direct ground contact is slightly reduced. However, the treaded sole retains excellent flexibility while providing outstanding grip on uneven terrain. It is ideal for hiking, whether you are an experienced barefoot enthusiast seeking demanding trails or a beginner exploring natural movement for the first time. The distance and difficulty of your hikes should be adapted to your own abilities and ambitions.
We also recommend our low-cut barefoot shoes with a deep tread to anyone new to barefoot shoes who would prefer a little more underfoot protection than an ultra-thin barefoot sole provides. Models such as the Contact S1 and Contact S11 with the treaded sole offer an excellent introduction to barefoot walking. They allow you to transition gradually into barefoot shoes before progressing to thinner soles, or simply continuing to enjoy the comfort, protection and versatility they provide.
